11-11-10 The Plan

I am sitting here eating tootsie rolls and making my weight management plan. I already feel like I need to apologize to the people who are already wishing me well in this journey. I do have to say I have done well the rest of the day so far, eating balanced meals and I have been drinking a lot of water, but I have had a migraine today that will just not go away, and the accompanying headache is atrocious. So these tootsies are not excused, but they are helping me cope at the moment. <<<shrug>>>

Anyway, I feel that the best laid plans are the simplest. I live by the K.I.S.S. motto, which is "Keep it simple stupid!" So on that note I have decided to change one thing everyday, till I reach the plan that fits me best. The diet idea I am leaning towards right now is one that a friend has been very successful doing. She focuses on her fiber intake and water. After a few months she started walking and is now up to 10,000 steps a day just while working out. She has had two kids while on this program and looses the weight immediately after. This sounds easy enough, and I could be doing that program, completely, by Monday. I started today by eliminating second servings. This is one BIG issue I have been dealing with for a long time, because I grew up having to eat everything on my plate and programmed to never ever ever waste food. So this is an issue when there is food out on the stove or when my kids don't finish there food, I almost always feel compelled to finish there plate and eat more from the stove. Sickening to read that last line back, but I do that all the time and know that this alone will be helpful....however I will be fighting this one for a while I imagine.

I have been getting all kinds of suggestions from well wishers already, and I would like to thank you all and say to everyone to please continue your contact and suggestions. I greatly appreciate it.

  1. Water is a HUGE component in weight loss. Sugar is the enemy in all shapes and forms. I was such a candy junkie. I found that sugar free candy (Twizzlers, Tootsie Rolls, Russel Stover Turtles) helped me over that first hump. I don't know how tall you are but if you were say 6 ft, your calorie intake to loose 2 pounds a week without any type of physical activity would be around 4,035 calories a day. That's alot when you are eating "clean" The hardest part is the cravings but they typically go away after a week. Always drink 16 ounces of water before you eat. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. I am drawing inspiration from you. You got this!

  2. Excellent James. This is a huge first step. And I see you took a few of them today rather than just one. The good thing I see is that you didnt do anything too overwhelming. One of the hardest things to do is put down sodas or sweet drinks and switch to water. Just keep on keeping on. It wont be long before your body tells you that it wants water only. About the food on the stove. Save it James. Do as we all did growing up. Save all the leftovers for a leftover night. It saves money and it gives your wife a break. And on leftover night, if there are leftovers.... THROW THEM AWAY. Its not healthy to eat them after that anyway due to germs growing etc. In a couple of weeks of not having seconds, Janell will get used to decreasing the amount she cooks. That also will save money. So, when you look down and see "waste" change that view to seeing savings. Because here shortly it will become savings. I used to get a family pack of pork chops and cook them all so we could all go back for seconds etc. Now, I buy 4 packs. Period. Pork, chicken, steak etc. When we are having company, I just make more than one package. But limiting yourself right from the cooking of the meal will save big time bucks and prevent the urge to go back for more. When you get that "seconds" craving..... go to the fruits and veggies. Lastly, about the tootsie rolls. My vice is milk duds. Don't beat yourself up too bad over that. You will get past it. BUT, if they are still sitting by you... MOVE THEM NOW! :) I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!

  3. Hey James,me again!

There are few enemies to true health.

    1. CORN SYRUP Use natural sweetners like raw sugar, honey, blue agave - not the pink, yellow, or blue packets -they are bad for you! 2. SODA Zero nutritional value, high in corn syrup and sodium, bad for teeth
    3. DIET SODA people who drink diet sodas with a meal eat 300 more calories than someone who has a regular soda - thus not very diet!
    4. PROCESSED FOODS what you eat should come from a farm not a factory
    5. PRESERVATIVES - if your bread does not mold within 2 days of sitting on your counter it's full of unnatural crap that is bad for you
    6. DEPRIVING YOURSELF OF GOOD STUFF - stuff with the above in the ingredients is not the good stuff cuz it's just not worthy of entering your body. Example of the good stuff: good quality dark chocolate made from a real chocolatier - they don't use corn syrup. Small amounts of dark choc is good for you.
    7. QUANTITY OVER QUALITY - when you are really picky on what you allow to enter your body, the flavor is better, more texture to your food, you don't feel deprived, then the lesser quantity isn't a big deal
    8. HYDRODGENATED ANYTHING - except for coconut oil, no oil should be in solid form at room temp, do not eat shortening, crisco, margerine. Our bodies do not know how to process it. Use olive oil or a tad of real butter....

Have to go now, next I will post the list of foods that I've learned should be eaten on a regular basis for optimal health
(most of all this comes from Dr. Oz or Dr Wiel)

Day two has been a success! Great job James!!

  4. I am so proud of you and I also have a suggestion for your program. I know how hungry you get...remember when you starved the whole time we were at my parents house...well I want you to eat a bowl of veggie soup whenever you feel hungry.. Its warm and will fill you up with almost no cals. hope this works. there are about 10 cans in the pantry :)

  8. I have the same problem with the food.
I wasn't made to eat it growing up, but I feel the same way, I don't want to waste it, nor do I want it to just sit somewhere for multiple hours, etc.
Good news is, now you're not alone, i'm trying to quit it too. So lets hope & pray that we can both defeat this habbit!
I want to say I'm proud of you, but that always sounds odd for the kid to tell the adult that, don't you think? Well I don't have any other words, so I am so proud of you cousin! Haha(:
Along with Kaela, I too will pray for you.
Keep up the good work. You're doing awesome!
    Love you!
